Asphalt Overlay

An asphalt overlay can only be as effective as the existing surface, however there are some factors that can increase the rate of success. If the entire existing asphalt is extremely cracked up, and it is not in the budget to replace the parking lot, then a Petromat overlay would be necessary.

Petromat Protective Membrane Fabric (PPMF) is a fabric that is installed over a hot, think oil called AR4000. Asphalt must be installed over PPMF, with a minimum thickness of 1.5" after compaction; however for more structural stability, 2" after compaction is required.

All measurements are after the compaction is completed... not before! Unfortunately some contractors will install less that the 2" of asphalt required for a successful job. When this happens, customers pour thousands of dollars down the drain.

There are different grades of asphalt used in construction. The three different grades are 3/8" rock, 1/2" rock, and 3/4" rock. Each of these three grades have a very specific, unique, purpose. It takes an experienced contractor to determine which is right for your specific application.
